When a catch basin starts to fail, it doesn’t take long before the surrounding pavement feels the impact—literally. That was exactly the case in Lebanon, PA, where we were called in to address a deteriorating catch basin along a busy commercial roadside.
As a company that specializes in asphalt maintenance and drainage solutions, we know how crucial it is to act fast, work clean, and get the job done right the first time.
A Failing Catch Basin in a High-Traffic Location
This particular basin was located right at the edge of a commercial property, tucked between a curb and an active roadway. Years of exposure to Pennsylvania’s freeze-thaw cycles and heavy traffic had taken a toll. The structure had deteriorated to the point where it was no longer holding up, causing misalignment in the basin lid and risking improper water flow during storms.
The catch basin needed more than a patch. It required a rebuild.
But this wasn’t your average repair. With cars passing just feet away and curbing already in place, every move had to be precise. From traffic cones to final pour, the job demanded clean execution and a tight turnaround.
Precision Demolition and Concrete Reconstruction
We started by carefully excavating the area around the catch basin, exposing the existing structure while protecting the nearby curb and pavement. Once exposed, we demolished approximately three-quarters of the original basin, cutting down to sound concrete we could safely build from.
To ensure a solid bond between the old and new sections, we drilled and pinned rebar into the remaining concrete. From there, we built a sturdy wooden form to shape the new upper portion of the basin.
Once formed, we poured new concrete and worked it to a smooth, durable finish—flush to grade and ready to handle years of use. The repair was built specifically to support a new cast iron lid that will be set cleanly and securely. The surrounding asphalt will then be paved right up to the structure, ensuring both function and a seamless look.
Built to Last, Right Where It Matters
Projects like this may seem small, but they play a huge role in protecting commercial infrastructure. A well-functioning catch basin helps prevent flooding, preserves surrounding pavement, and keeps water flowing where it should—even during Lebanon’s heaviest storms.
And in a place as visible and heavily traveled as this roadside location, a clean, professional finish isn’t just a bonus—it’s a necessity.
At ProSeal Asphalt Maintenance Inc., we take pride in restoring the unseen infrastructure that keeps local properties safe and sound. Whether it’s a full-depth asphalt patch, a new basin lid, or a complete concrete rebuild like this one, we bring the same care and craftsmanship every time.
